Take the role of a brave hearted Apprentice in the world of Nous; gathering a retinue of friends and followers as you seek adventure.
Every adventure is different! Randomly drawn hexes allow for infinite possibilities.
Procedurally generated gameplay across cooperative, casual, and competitive scenarios.
Amberlight's strength lies in its replayability and versatility. No two games ever feel the same, with the very tiles beneath your characters paws being drawn and manipulated by the players using spells and abilities! Modular hexcrawl rules allow for solo, cooperative, competitive and casual play across individual scenarios and fully fledged campaigns.
Individual scenarios are designed for 45 minutes of gameplay or more, with near-infinite replayability through semi-randomised draws and events.
Each campaign guide offers branching adventure paths that change the course of your adventure, and the landscape of the world of Nous! Your Apprentice's choices matter every step of the way.
All the while, your Apprentice will grow stronger, gaining resources and experience that allows you to explore further, delve deeper into dungeons, and face fiercer foes than ever before.
It's a team effort - even when playing alone!
Tracked on your Player Board, your Retinue and Followers grow with you as you explore over multiple campaigns. Upgrade their abilities and craft new items using the resources collected, trade with other players, and progress towards more dangerous adventures whilst unlocking the secrets of the automata - insectoid contraptions abandoned by the mysterious Precursors of old...
Followers can also join you in your adventures, acting as additional or substitute party members! Depending upon their abilities, they may also offer unique options not otherwise accessible to players.
Continual Progression
As you move throughout the world and explore new hexes, uncover cards or resources to improve your chances of victory.
Approach every encounter differently!
Ensure a mixture of luck and skill with multiple mechanics: 'Look before you leap' movement, redraws based upon difficulty, multiple objective tiles, push-your-luck decisions, as well as a robust spell, item, and ability toolkit. Seek endless combinations of cards offering useful boons on the battlefield!
Prepare for fiendish boss encounters throughout campaigns, whilst down time leveling activities in between campaign scenarios let you hone your equipment and affinities even further.
As you navigate the game board in either the Overworld or Underworld, discover new locations, encounter allies and adversaries, and uncover secrets hidden within the world.
Movement is a function of a Player or NPC's Movement attribute; and for each point they may move into a new biome or move across the same biome as long as they are connected. Movement in the Underworld or dungeons is on a hex by hex basis depending upon attribute value.
Hexes are divided into biomes - Plains, Forests, & Mountains. Your Apprentice may move freely between tiles of the same biome using their movement value.
Apprentices may move between biomes as one movement, and then freely between biomes as in the previous example.
When moving to an unexplored tile, a hex is randomly drawn; and this may also include random encounters, locations, or NPCs. As in this example, the same biome allows for continued movement to end their turn.
Depending upon cooperative or competitive gameplay, players may wish to alter existing tiles through items or abilities to obfuscate movement!
Similarly, through the use of spells or otherwise!
Exploration can often lead to encounters with hostile creatures...
Combat is resolved with unique dice reflecting the attacker and defender's respective statistics, items and abilities.
