The Rotten Tarot is an illustrated 48 card Oracle Deck & 68 page (included) book; with funny, mad, crazy, super-modern archetypes of humanity gleaned and polished from existentialism, alt-political ideology, psychology, underground film, psychedelic culture, comedy, black humour and cognitive illusions. It is the culmination of years of hard work researching, testing and writing.
You don’t need to know about Tarot or believe in it to have fun with this – the detailed 68 page book included tells you exactly what each card means and how to arrange cards, both on your own or with friends to reveal hidden truths and illuminate the crazy crevices of your lives with the wisdom of some of the craziest thoughts in the culture.
The Rotten Tarot GETS you. It reflects the real, hilarious crisis of the way we live today. It might even show you a way out that leaves you with some dignity intact – or failing that gives you a good laugh.
The Rotten Tarot is bawdy, bizarre, thought provoking and funny. Obsessed with ideas from existentialism, mad political ideology, psychology, underground film, psychedelic culture, comedy, black humour and cognitive illusions. A good Oracle should tell us the Cosmic Joke – jolt us, tease us out of our complacency and pull back the veil that obscures the hidden realities around us. Laugh, cry and hurl as you utilise these exquisite and anarchic fortune telling cards to re-order your own disordered life(style) into something yet more baroque and dis-associative.
Why is it called ‘Rotten’? We are in a great period of upheaval. What was once ruling over us is now finally toppling. What was once certain is now subjective. All maps are wrong, and false truths and ideologies are ready for a rethink. It is exciting, and we have tools like never before to educate and enlighten ourselves. From the rot can spring fresh shoots, fresh thoughts, fresh archetypes. It is fertile, and the future is one of hope – despite all the gloom. A candle looks brighter in the darkness anyway.
“The good creative process is one where you take wrong turns: I started this idea of making an oracle deck a long time ago, and I worked on creating new artwork for the classic Tarot archetypes – following in the giant footsteps of Pamela Coleman Smith and Frieda Harris. I was fascinated by their art, and their backstories too. I also realised there were so many new things to say about ‘The Self’ – in fact as filmmaker Adam Curtis says – are we not in ‘The Century of The Self’?”
Real reviews:
“…Great! It’s funny, on point and HARSH – all at the same time!…”
“…I love this deck, I’m so pleased with myself for buying it. Thank you so much for these cards of absolute joy!…”
“…They are amazing AND hours of fun fun fun…”
“…I used your Tarot on a date yesterday: longest date ever, 24 hours of fun!…”
